ABOUT TIME
Original Oil on Canvas
47" x 39"

$
33,000

We all have the potential of being free and charting our own course in life.  However, time melts away and one's hopes of having wings to soar free gradually becomes a mere shadow, never to be realized

EYE OF GOD
Original Oil on Canvas
47" x 39"
$
53,000

An avid reader of philosophy, Medina refers to Nietzche's words "God is dead".  Medina contemplates the idea that modern day "miracles" of science may have driven us to stop believing in God.  But the artist ponders if we created and then destroyed an idea of God or has he always been there just watching us.  However, as the female figure covers her eyes, do we not also avert our eyes when staring into an empty eye socket in the face of an idea we created:  Is the emptiness in the idea of God or is it in us.  "EYE of GOD was exhibited in the 2000 Salon Nacionale des Beaux Arts exhibition held at the Louvre

INCENSE LAMP
Original Oil on Canvas
36" x 29"

$
33,000

Man is forever in an eternal quest to answer life's questions.  He is willing to knowingly sacrifice everything to understand "truth".  However, the search for this truth is elusive because whenever we feel we are getting close to it, the answer changes and drifts through our fingers like smoke from an incense lamp.  In this painting, the figure sits with her arms open as to succumb to the fact that her search will know no end

MARBLE DREAMS
Original Oil on Canvas
39" x 63"

$
47,000

Marble Dreams depicts a female figure that seems to be evolving from stone to flesh from the relief.  This evolution and her dynamic movement reflect her ability to dream and hope of being able to fly about her world, as she knows it.  She focuses her gas to her right to see winged male figure, solidly portrayed in marble.  The irony is that this is the static, unchanging winged figure that will never know flights and freedom, rather it is the wingless gigure that shows us she is growing from one being to another, who seems most likely to float about and away from composition.  Third figure placed in the center of the composition sits with her head covered.  She is ambivalent to the constraints of her marble world and reticent to exercise the newfound freedom represented by her flesh.  Medina presents three choices with which the viewer can identify.  The answer is left to the viewer

OTHER EDGE OF THE SEA
Original Oil on Canvas
47" x 39"
$41,175

Man has always established the limits of his known world at the other side of the sea.  However, man himself views his own potential as limitless.  These two thoughts are best represented by The Age of Discovery in the l5th and l6th centuries during which man felt he had the ability to sail to the other side of the sea and return.  In doing so he expanded the limits of his own physical world. The equation works the other direction as well.  Man's believe in his own boundless capabilities leads to great achievements and his great achievements further reaffirm his belief of his own potential for experiencing life. whether it be discovering a new land or falling in love or creating a work of art

Secret Freedom
Original Oil on Canvas
47" x 29"
$
29,500

The secret to being truly free is in facing our fear of exploring our inner frailties.  However, these fears are assigned to a "book" that we write ourselves and because we do not want to face these shortcomings, we put them into a book that is impossible to open.  The artist represents this in the floating volumes of books that are inexplicable melded so that no one can open it.  This illusion can be easily overcome by drawing on one's courage and willingness to read what is inside

THE BACK
Original Oil on Canvas
55" x 39"
$
36,000

Medina takes the viewer behind the canvas in the painting "The Back."  He suggests what we might see if we could go beyond the two dimensional surface of the painting.  The painting is divided as a grid by the stretcher bars on which the canvas is stretched. In the upper left quadrant we see the back of a figure sitting with her hands poised submissively behind her.  Across from her is her reflection in a large shard of glass.  In the lower left quadrant is her reflection again, this time reflected in the shattered pieces of glass. And finally in the lower right quadrant we get a glimpse of what is on the surface of the painting in the section of canvas that is torn away and turned inward.  Our sense of reality is show to be multifaceted and on occasion, we break through and are able to glimpse true reality

Transforming Time
Original Oil on Canvas
36" x 29"
$33,750

People think that time fades away.  Medina feels that on the contrary, time is a constant immutable force.  The march of time never alters from its persistent pattern.  It is we, we are altered in the course of this force.  However, man feels he or she can be defiant in the face of time.  The female figure raises and shows her hands proudly, as if to say she is in control by virtue of the fact that her hands are the same hands that can make a clock.  As she assumes this attitude, she is oblivious to the fact that it is she who is changing from marble to flesh and back again all within an amorphic mass.  All she can do in reality is to measure the time's passing of which she is the final victim.
