NIA Research and Documentation
The National Institute of Appraisers (NIA) has amassed an unparalleled
computerized database on the world's important works of art that regularly
appear at auction. Our primary database has the results of over 900,000
works by nearly 80,000 artists. Results from 500 auction houses throughout
the world are documented. Other databases fill a key need in helping
evaluate art that is not handled by international auction houses. This
"non-auction" art represents 98% of art work bought and sold
annually.
NIA Certified Appraisals have been specifically designed to meet the
requirements of insurance carriers and our Certified Appraisals for fine
art donations are based on the latest Internal Revenue Service
regulations.
The NIA appraisal is based on Fair Market "Replacement"
Value. It is the price the art would sell for on the open market. It is
the price that would be
agreed on between a willing buyer and a willing seller, with neither being
required to act and both having a reasonable knowledge of the relevant
facts.
Clients
NIA has appraised thousands of private, corporate and municipal
collections, nationwide. Our appraisers are regularly called upon to
consult with government agencies including the IRS, FBI, RTC, DEA and the
US Marshall's offices.
Fees
NIA has a preprinted fee schedule and fees are based on a flat fee-per-item
schedule, determined and paid for in advance.
NO NIA CERTIFIED APPRAISAL HAS EVER BEEN OVERTURNED OR
REJECTED BY AN INSURANCE CARRIER OR THE IRS
